Mission
The mission of the chair is to run a Program for Excellence in Timber Engineering, which represents a major step-up in education and research, aiming to be a centre of excellence and attracting the best researchers and students. We educate the future generation of structural engineers with deep skills and top level competencies for using timber as a high quality building material for a sustainable development of the built environment.
We aim at developing fundamental knowledge on the structural behaviour of timber and applying the developed basic knowledge to promote innovative timber and hybrid structures and to develop new methods for a safe and economic design and construction. We aim at a strong interaction and collaboration with industry and stakeholders to identify and solve fundamental problems and facilitate the knowledge transfer into the practice. Our goal is the recognition of timber as a high quality building material, thereby leading to a substantial increase in the use of timber for structures.
We provide top level consulting services and independent expertise to the practice and actively support national and international organisations and professional associations, as well as committees in the field of structural and fire safety engineering.
Our spirit is based on fairness, support, professionalism and open discourse. Our work fulfils the highest quality standards and scientific responsibility guides all our activities.
